How to check live traffic in Northern Ireland
The quickest reliable starting point is TrafficWatchNI, the Department for Infrastructure’s official road-information service.
What the official service covers
TrafficWatchNI publishes separate feeds for incidents, roadworks and planned events on Northern Ireland’s trunk roads and motorways. It also provides Greater Belfast feeds covering all roads in that area.
The service says these feeds are refreshed every five minutes. NI News uses the official incident and roadworks feeds on its traffic page and always links back to the original item.
Before starting a journey
- Check the current incident list for unexpected disruption.
- Review roadworks if your route uses a motorway, trunk road or Belfast arterial route.
- Open the official item to confirm the latest wording before changing your plans.
- Allow extra time around major events and follow emergency-service directions on the road.
Live road information can change quickly. NI News presents the official feed for convenience but does not replace TrafficWatchNI, road signage or instructions from the emergency services.
